Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) Oatley
PREVENT IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO YOUR SMILE WITH A NIGHT GUARD
WHAT IS BRUXISM ?
Bruxism is the habit of grinding your teeth together, usually at night, but some patients also do it when working or going to the gym. Interestingly teeth should never touch! When chewing food, your teeth actually compress to approximately half a millimetre away from each other and do not clunk together, plus at rest teeth should sit 2mm apart. Shockingly 2mm of tooth wear from grinding is equivalent toapproximately 200 years worth of natural use!
WHY DO I NEED A NIGHT SPLINT?
A lot of bruxism patients do their grinding at night, either through breathing issues, or stress. The pressure on your jaw muscles and joint can cause very painful side effects, TMD. Wearing a correctly made and balanced night splint will neutralise your muscles, keep your joint in a safe position, remove and interferences and also on to of that help to protect the teeth from wear. Prevention is always better than the cure so if you are suffering from tooth wear, get your night splint ASAP!
